¡Hola! After a long night of rain, and losing shoes in the flash floods we woke up this morning to beautiful sunshine. Today our plan was to check out all the sites that we are going to be working on. After a delicous breakfast, we started our first trek up to our first site. The first hike was two hours away, but with beautiful views. When we finally reached the top of the mountain, we met one of the family that we are going to build a home for. One of the children is blind and can not walk or talk. When we came down we finally got to have lunch, as we started to leave for our next expedition it started to thunder. As of right now, we are just hanging out at the school yard playing soccer and basketball. While some of the students went to the malnutrition center visiting the kids. About Mir Pace
- Mir Pace
- Mir Pace introduces teen volunteers to poverty and its tragic effects on populations worldwide and strives to help them discover the profound and positive impact they can make in service to others. We target populations who have been forgotten and left behind by international, state, and local agencies, and who are incapable of improving their life situation without external assistance. Some of our service programs include nutrition intervention; clean water harvesting and sanitation systems; building and home construction and repairs; educational initiatives, assisting local communities in building strong organizations that can promote self-sufficiency, and we also assist in establishing artisan collaboratives that increase incomes for craftspeople, while preserving the cultural traditions that distinguish each country and its people. Our proudest achievement has been to ignite a spirit of volunteerism in our teen volunteers that is now being carried on into their adult lives. Since 1999, Mir Pace has been working along side the people of The Bolivar Peninsula, TX, Bosnia and Herzegovina, El Salvador, Guatemala, Peru, and Tanzania.

You all should be so proud of yourselves (because we at home are so proud of all of you). What a selfless thing you are doing on your free time. Tell Sean his family says HI and we miss him! Hmmm, losing shoes? Hope you have extras.
ReplyDeleteSo happy to hear of your adventures! Brings me right back to when I went on this trip! Enjoy and cherish every minute because it goes by fast! People there appreciate everything you guys do! Even a nice smile goes a long way! Playing soccer in the rain was one of the best parts of being in Guatemala! :) I hope you guys have a blast and I will definitely be reading what you have to say! Goodnight all!
